In 2002, the City of Kaktovik commissioned a 1/2-hour documentary with the purpose of expressing the Kaktovikmiut perspective on potential petroleum development within a portion of their ancestral homelands: the Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. It was made in response to a massive media intrusion that has, in the eyes of the Kaktovikmiut, dramatically misrepresented their ideas, beliefs and way of life.
